It pays to be a "lurker" for your first week to get the gist of things.

I lurked for 2 weeks before signing up and I'm still lurking through old threads for information now. This forum is like a treasure chest of nutritional knowledge.

+1!It is a treasure chest! While most of it is really "gold" information, some of the earlier stuff can be not worth anything.

Yeah, there's some information that's out of date towards the back pages of the forums but for the most part I'd say this is one of the most well informed forums on health, fitness and nutrition that I've used in the past 2~ years. One thing I'd like to know is what podcast/article does Kiefer mention that plant fats/oils are inferior to animal fats/coconut oil?Since reading up on the forum about it, I've been put off snacking on almonds/brazils/walnuts and I've not touched my cold-pressed rapeseed oil.

It was on the forums. You can have some nuts here and there, just don't gorge. More reasons then just fats. You shouldn't use rapeseed oil at all, that stuff is terrible.

I don't tend to gorge. I weigh out 25g and eat as a snack sometime between breakfast and lunch or after dinner. So that would still be fine then, right? As for the rapeseed oil, I was dubious about buying it. The only reason I did was because in the CNS book it mentioned supplementing omeaga-3 as much as possible.Seeing as rapeseed oil has a moderate amount of omega 3, I bought it and figured I would use it in place of olive oil for cooking with.Haven't touched it since I started lurking here. I just use butter/EVCO or just the fat that comes off the meat that I'm cooking.

That should be fine for nuts. If you seem to stall then cut them out.Omega-3's are great, but worthless when coming from plant sources.Rapeseed oil is also worse for cooking then EVOO, although EVOO isn't great either. If you are gonna supplement omega-3 then use EPA/DHA rich fish oil.

I do already supplement with fish oil, I also try to get a good 2-4 servings of salmon/makarel down my neck through the week.

    Is it Atlantic salmon?

Either Scottish or Alaskan, mostly Scottish since it more local to where I live.

Just wondering b/c if it says "Atlantic salmon", here in the US, you can be confident it most likely farm raised, which is the equivalent of grain fed beef in salmon.

If you aren't sure about your salmon, look at the ingredients list.  Farmed salmon almost always has some sort of coloring added to it.
