SurferKeymasterI've been on CNS for a couple of weeks now and I've been drinking Pepsi Max as I usually do – about 1-2 cans a day. But now I've just read a couple of threads about Ace-K (which is the same as the acesulfame potassium in Pepsi Max, right?) and now I wonder if I've screwed everything up and need to do the prep phase again?! 🙁Thanks

Jas0nGuestYou said you've been on CNS for a couple of weeks – I would only redo the prep phase if you feel that you aren't losing weight as fast as you'd expect/at all.Jason.

AciDMemberAs long as there is no stall, I wouldn't bother with Ace-K.Even Kiefer said it.

Richard SchmittModeratorYou're good! No worries. If you do begin to stall, like not weight or fat loss cut those drinks out and keep diet in check.

SurferGuestPhew, that is such a relief! hahaI had to re-do the prep phase once already, but I'm already seeing results. So I'll stick to the Max until that changes. Keeps me sane when the cravings get too bad! 😉Thanks for the help guys 🙂

Richard SchmittModeratorUnless you completely go off the grid, that's only time you'll need the full yen days other than that maybe just 7 is good.

SurferGuestYea right, 'cus I've been wondering – obviously if you completely spazz out and have like 3 CN's in a row you have to start over, but what happens if you go over your carb limit just a little bit one day? Like say you have 40-50 grams of carbs? And is there a limit to how many times you can "re-start"?

Richard SchmittModeratorWon't be too bad to go over 30g every now and then but everyday. A limit? I wouldn't make it a habit to try and mess up

SurferGuestHaha, well I'm not planning to 😛 But I know from experience that it happens sometimes..

CropsyMemberThis reminded me that I've been wondering why 30g per day is the magic number? I know there must be a specific reason but I can't say I've ever seen it. It also seems funny to me that this 30g is recommended for everyone, whether you're a 120 lb woman or a 240 lb man. Also, the 10g per meal limit?

I've been wondering that as well... Also, I've read that if you have done the full 10-day prep phase once then it's okay to do the next one (if you mess up) for a shorter period of time - why is that?

steverMemberThe 30 gram recommendation is straight out of Lyle McDonald's Ketogenic Diet – another very well-researched book. Here's the crux of it, at page 104, but this point comes up a few times throughout the research cited. One of the most interesting things about the book is that, although he was a great proponent of a ketogenic diet, he drew no conclusions as to its seemingly fantastic nature within. ie. there was no special advantage to one, a calorie was still a calorie (after you take into account the inefficiency of the mechanisms & the thermic effect of food). I think a lot of the confusion in this regard came from the research stating that where individuals could eat an unlimited amount of fat & protein whilst carbohydrates were off limits, they would automatically eat in the 1400-2400 calorie range and be satisfied... Not that they could eat whatever and get away with it. Woops bit of a side-track there, sorry

CropsyMemberHi Stever. Thanks for that info. I suppose that makes sense. But what about the 10g per meal limit? Any ideas?

steverMemberfrom memory, 10 grams is where you start seeing a decent enough insulin response to bump you out of ketosis
