Kevin LawsonParticipantI’m reading alot of posts here about counting macros. I’m a little confused because in CNS Keifer says to only count carbs and have fat with every protien. Should I be taking his advise in the begining and count macros if I have complications or should I start off tracking all of my macros? I am 5’8″, 175 lbs and I do some strength training (mostly calisthenics) two to three times a week. I would like to get my body fat percentage at least below 20.
Thanks

Penny DannerParticipantI started CNS with only tracking carbs….then when things stopped happening (scale stopped moving and body comp stopped or went the opposite way), I started tracking macros.
You are pretty lean at your height and weight so it wouldn’t HURT but if you want to give it a month with only counting carbs then try that.

Richard SchmittModeratorUnless you’re really in tune with your body and the portion sizes to fit your needs, track it. It’s really easy to over eat AND under eat if you’re not careful.

Brandon D ChristParticipantThe only time I would recommend counting macros is if you aren’t progressing. I don’t think most people have to do this.

SpatzModeratorIf it doesn’t add extra stress, I would recommend tracking your macros. I’m not saying you need to be adjusting your macros to conform to a set of goals (except for carbs, make sure those stay under 30g) but it’s a great tool to have in your belt to look back on months later to see what you were doing and how well it was working if you need to make tweaks down the road.
Also, its good to make sure you aren’t grossly over or under eating. So observe, just don’t mess with it yet.

Kevin LawsonParticipantThanks for the replies. Yesterday was my first day on CNS. I have a little experience tracking my macros but I would not say I’m an expert. I’m still in the learning process. It does add a little more stress so I’m going to start with tracking carbs and then troubleshoot if there is no progress. I tried eating keto before and the problem I had was lowering my protien to 80 grams and eating high fat. I have to figure out how to get in enough fat to feel satiated. The protien satiates me. Today I was not hungry at all but I did try to eat moderate protien. I just made sure that I had a fat with the protien. If I can figure out how to replace my protien with fat then I can eat keto on ULC days and high carb/low fat on carb nite if there is no progress. Yesterday I managed to keeps carbs below 30 grams to the best if knowledge.
@ Penny Danner,
You said I’m pretty lean at my height and weight. I never thought I would here someone say that. I was 240 lbs at my heaviest. I’m blessed. I just want to finish what I started.
Thanks
