I feel like the general answer here from most, including myself, was “stop running.”BUT! I'd like to add onto my opinion. I actually quite like Jason Seib's stance on endurance sports.Basically; You need to recognize that it is a SPORT. And in order to gain performance in a sport, there is almost always a trade off with health. So can we say "Yeah, do several 10 mile runs per week, just throw in some strength training to counter it and you'll be as healthy as you can be?" No.. But if the endurance sport is something you love to do, then by all means, do it. Just recognize that there is a trade off with goals/progress in other aspects of life and health.TL;DR - If you love it, keep doing it. But don't think of it as a way to be healthy, and recognize that trade-off.

I do some long distance swim/run training for the simple purpose of being a better endurance athlete so I can compete, however I only do long distance once per week, with two HIT sessions of 30 seconds on 1 minute off for 8 rounds.  This has worked very well, so if yo are concerned abuot being able to not only sprint HIT style, but also o for longer periods of time (since youre a soccer player) this method might work for you.

I don't think he's concerned about his endurance performance, he's just neurotic.  He has "former fat boy syndrome" like a few others on here.
