tzanghiParticipantWhat exactly is the purpose of the detox diet? It seemed like the best possible version of the prep phase, but after reading previous posts, I'm not so sure of that.

tzanghiParticipantThanks, Cookie, the last time I was in a bookstore they didn't have that issue. And I've read the forum posts regarding the Detox Diet(including the sticky), and they do not explicitly state the purpose anywhere.

cookiebParticipantNo problem! It's posted in the files on Facebook page. I was pumped when it was posted – I think it was on a Thursday and I had just done my last backload of the week. Stayed ULC through the weekend and started implementing it right away on Monday. I was already in ketosis, so it made it easier to transition to eating from the limited food sources.

cookiebParticipantPshannon or Tex, I know you guys have experience with the detox diet. I'm experiencing some severe bloating/Gas (TMI – sorry) since yesterday – what would be causing this? So weird for ULC….Just the belly, don't seem to be retaining any water

I miss baking actually. I liked cooking my own food lol. But hey, for the price I'm paying to go here, I better have bacon, eggs, and gluten free treats on demand. LOLZ

I had this problem by the last few days of the detox. It was also extremely backed up by the end though, so I have a feeling that was a sign that my body was using every nutrient that I was putting in it. Get some digestive enzymes, or possible a gluten free probiotic. These have done wonders for me. How much water are you drinking?

+1 the sodium in bacon had me hold on to water as well. But Natural Calm and Super Digestive Enzymes really helps me. I highly suggest them. At first take 3-4 Tsp of NC about an hour or so before bed. Then cut back down to 2 Tsp when needed. Take about 4 tablets of Digestive Enzymes during each meal at first. If you don't get a warm fuzzy feeling up it to 5 or 6.

cookiebParticipantthanks for the supp suggestions…I suspect it's because I'm officially 2 weeks into ULC today (carb nite's not till Sunday)…Drinking between 110-130 oz of water. Have reduced coffee to 2 cups…Tummy was so full this AM that I was worried about lifting

cookiebParticipantTex / pshannon – HELP! OMG, I weighed myself today after just over a month of not weighing, and I am up 7 pounds!!! Can you please help me justify this in my head before I lose it?First and foremost, hubby says I look more solid - tighter, so that's mildly comforting. Been running the detox for 16 days straight, and today is carb nite.Measurements have also been over a month. The only one that's smaller is my wrist, by a very insignificant fraction (from 6.25 ti 6 1/16). I know I mentioned I've felt bloated towards the end (been about 4-5 days now, that the tummy's felt bloated) - waist measurement is UP 1 inch! All other measurements are UP within a 1/4 inch of a month ago.Had potty issues this morning, but weighed and measured anyway cause I needed to eat. These are the things that I think attributed to the weight and size increase - please help me make sense of it...Addition of creatine AND isolates PWO (was not using either prior to the detox)and going so many days before finally hitting the carbsI don't get why I am struggling with this. My weight is the highest it was since March, where I was definitely not in as good shape as now. For all the measuring and calculating I have been doing, I feel like I should be SO much further along! (I mean, I cut out CHEESE!)Could I not be eating enough? I did feel hungry at times during the detox being between 1600-1800 cals a day (figured on 120LBS lean mass). Fat and protein were an exact match. under 15grams carbs for the day always, with about 7 usable. Could I grossly be underestimating my lean mass? I am now 149. Every body part is pretty solid, except for a little something to hold on to in the butt area (mostly glute ham tie-in), and can now pinch about an inch at my hip standing up - no calipers 🙁 Trying not to freak and hoping to get a more accurate picture next Sunday...Any wisdom, as always, much appreciated~Cookie

Zach516MemberYou added creatine? Was it mono hydrate? You will retain some serious water weight with that stuff. So if you just added it, its no big deal.Calorie levels seem fine to me. If you are stressed/eating salty foods that could be causing water retention. I would refeed and see what happens next week. Refeeds often can reduce stress. Also, how long have you been actively dieting? I would recommend maybe taking a break and upping carbs across all days if it has been a significant time.

Trevor G FullbrightModeratorI would be willing to bet money on the fact it's the addition of creatine.Everyone I've ever talked has added some weight when adding it in, for me personally I will add 5-10lbs if I add it back after not taking it for awhile.

cookiebParticipantHi Zach, Been dieting my whole life :)….Just came off a 3 week stint of CBL where I was backloading with about 130 g's carbs every night for that exact purpose. Switched to detox after. No salty food, pretty much bare bones detox. Beef, bacon, eggs, CO, and peppers. kerry gold and bacon fat to make up for fat/protein ration.Yep, creatine Mono hydrate. Also, been sleeping better than before - thought that would help. I had also switched to more of a conditioning type program (higher reps, 70-60% weights) to give my body a break cause I was going pretty hard and heavy before that.Starting 5/3/1 on Wed (that will put me at a 5 day deload)...Lift in the AM - I do still need the whey, correct? Should I keep the creatine in there? And coffee with fat still prior to lifting?

Then that's all good. I feel its mandatory to ask if people have taken a break because most people go too hard too long, especially when they are achieving consistent results. Yes, I would use the whey after lifting, and as for creatine, if you feel it makes you stronger I would keep it. Just know you'll be a bit heavier because your muscles will be holding more water. Also, I don't know if this is true or not, because I haven't lifted high reps in a while, and have had no reason to research it, but I've heard that High Rep training can cause adaptations within the muscle to hold more glycogen, which means that could also cause you to retain some water. Just a theory though. Good luck 🙂
