AdamFiddlerKeymasterSo for those of us who train in the AM, CBL recommends backloading the night before to set up an increased GH spike post-training. My question is: What would be the problem with backloading the night before, training AM fasted, having some whey or fast digesting protein post-training and then doing a moderate backload about 4 hours post-training at the end of the GLUT-4 window? At first glance, it seems like you would get both benefits, and there are some highly effective programs out there that recommend having your post-workout carbs about 4-6 hours after training if you train in the AM (Martin Berkhan's Leangains, for example, which has phenomenal body recomp results).-Adam

Brandon D ChristParticipantI've wondered this myself, but I guess it is more optimal to refill glycogen stores at night.

the problem is that it is not the program presented to you. there is a lot of science behind this and Kiefer created it based on the science.

if you want to be small/weak, go do leangains. they are all about 150lbs and think their goal is to look like brad pitt.sorry for sounding sarcastic and such, but just follow it the way it is written and kick ass in the gym and you will reap the benefits.I train in the am as well.

AdamFiddlerGuestibob,Do you know why this would be? As I've heard Kiefer explain it in interviews a few times, backloading the night before isn't about glycogen stores at all, it's for using the insulin spike in the PM to provide the GH effect post training. Fwiw even he seems to say he's way more unsure of all this stuff than he is of the template CBL protocol. -Adam

well, he does mention that am training is not optimal and that consuming carbs early messes with fat burning and such. I think with all the carbs you take in the night before throwing GH into a rage, a quick 20-40g of carbs pwo in the am is all you need. You didn't miss that part about having some quick digesting carbs PWO for am training right?
