Richard SchmittModeratorI used a 1 mg piece pre-workout last night but, being that I've only done that once so far, I haven't noticed any change to speak of.
Evening training not morning correct?

Yup, I would've reviewed Kiefer's suggestions first but I was low on time, so I just took it anyway. I figured it might at least stave off my hunger for a bit.

Gl;itch.eMemberI just feel like Im stronger and make more consistent gains when Im using some nicotine gum. I tried it for about a month awhile ago and made some real good strength gains. Then I ran out and left it for about a month (Kiefer does suggest “cycling” it after all). Strength started going backwards a bit. Now I have some more Im going to take it for another whirl. I certainly like the nootropic effects of nicotine. I cant say I notice any real fat loss benefit but Im pretty much at maintenance calories and not really looking to drop much more fat. I think it helps with water retention a little as I feel a tiny bit drier when I have it as opposed to when I dont.

Demetrius SarigiannisParticipantI've been using a 2 mg lozenge in the morning of my workout days only. So one lozenge that day. The lozenge is the generic Walgreens mint flavor brand and the 2 mg dosage is the lowest they had in stock. If I remember correctly, other flavors had Ace-K in them, but the mint only has aspartame. I started about a month ago, and I only workout 3 days a week so I've only had about 12 doses (one per day). Initially I drank 16 oz of coffee first, but recently started taking a lozenge after brushing my teeth in the morning. Effects I've noticed:Initially some light-headedness / dizziness for the first couple doses but that's gone. on days I take the lozenge, I definitely feel more alert and focus better on mental tasks. I do also feel warmer. Other than that, my food intake has been in flux because of the holidays, so haven't noticed much else. Definitely something I'll continue for a while. One thing that caught my eye was in the article, Kiefer makes a big deal about avoiding carbs on the days you have Nicotine unless you have the chance to train. "Also, ingesting nicotine earlier in the day can cause transient insulin resistance[26], which means that if you’re ingesting nicotine while on Carb Back-Loading, you absolutely must resistance train.I recommend chewing gum twice per day on training days, and only once per day on non-training days—or not at all. You should also make sure that you train on your actual Carb Nites if you’re going to implement nicotine usage while on The Carb Nite Solution—or abstain from nicotine for 24 hours before you feast."However, in the x-mas video, he didn't mention this at all. It sounded like he was ok with people taking the nicotine and then having all their christmas carbs later on. I'd guess if you're on an ultra-low carb day, you should be fine having nicotine on those days since you won't have any carbs in your system. One thing I found a bit confusing about the protocol: I interpreted it as, if its a training day, take 1 mg in the AM and another mg in the PM just before training. However, if it takes 24 hours to clear the system, I'm not sure why it's needed twice in that day. From the article""For Carb Nite, the morning dose ensures quick clearance. Nicotine clears the system in roughly 24 hours..."

Richard SchmittModeratorI would use Nicotine as prescribed but say your CN is on Saturday, don't take it the second time on Friday (if you train) and wait to use it Sunday morning. Just to be on the safe side, if that makes sense. I have yet to try Nicotine, because at Walmart their products for this suck. Sorbitol and other crap in those gums and hella expensive.

NeverettGuestHi Ya'll…. I am 4 months into Kiefer's protocols and the more I learn, the more I think they are just brilliant. A great way to live and be healthy.. But that's not my point here. I am heading into a few months of CNS, to trim down a bit.. I'm at 14%BF now and 85kg. I would like to use nicotine gum to spark the results on a little however, I am a 6am trainer each day and will be following the regime of the hypertrophy shake for strength and a banana after I train. With the potential negative effects of nicotine and insulin in the system together, what is the optimal time to ingest nicotine in this situation?? I've tried to work out by calculating hours that a PM trainer would chew gum and count backwards but chances are I'll be sleeping…. Any advise or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks heaps.

Nicholas E bucciParticipantIt's been a while since I've trolled the forums so forgive me if this question has already been brought up…I'm currently employing nicotine as part of a Hybrid SA/IF protocol. It's very similar to what the guys at Propane are doing.. Anyways, i'm consuming essentially only two meals per day, a large Pro/Fat only meal around 11-12 and another large carb laden meal asap postworkout, with a final small protein shake around 2-3 hrs post-workout. My question is two-fold:1st- Maybe it's mentioned somewhere else, but how long before ingesting carbs is it acceptable to have the gum? If I chew at 1pm, train at 3pm and start carbs at 6pm (around four to five hours later) is it too soon? Is there a magic number, like 4 hours, to avoid the adverse effects mentioned in the article?2nd - The basic protocol is something along the lines of 1mg in am and 1 mg afternoon. However, at the end of the article he quickly says "personally I chew a 2mg piece first thing in the morning every other day," So which is the better way to go, what he says or what HE does?I'd appreciate any thoughts/feedback.

AdamFiddlerGuestSo what's the verdict on the best nicotine gum to use in terms of purity/lack of other bullshit found within the gum?

Charles642GuestI'm an so confused on this nicotine and insulin topic. Someone please enlighten me! Let say you had the nicotine right before you ingested carbs, what would happen? How would you feel? I use snus as a pre workout and I have gotten pretty cut from it. However, whenever I use it on an empty stomach or ingesting carbs, I feel sluggish and spacy, defintaely not stimulated at all.

guitarjonParticipantMy understanding is that the nicotine can cause insulin resistance and it's a bad idea to have it with or before carbs, which is why you have to train before you ingest the carbs, that way you get the effect of insulin without the insulin. I don't think this necessarily means you'll immediately put on fat otherwise, but it's not a good idea to mix the nicotine and carbs.

I think worrying about this is pretty useless because if you backload on an off day, it's at night when you're more insulin resistant anyway.

Very true, normally I only have the gum in the morning IF I remember. I just don't even bother on days when I know I'll have carbs anyway because I don't care to stress about it.

Jeff&SarahMemberI won't be trying this one. I had a hell of a time quitting smoking 10 years ago, and there's no way I'd introduce that back in to my system. I'd be afraid of not being able to quit it again. That's just for me though.Very interesting topic.

samuel r walkerParticipantLow dosing and cycling off is key to avoid dependency. A cigarette has 9x the nicotine thats recommended for this protocol
