guitarjonParticipantHe was 269/70 and low 230s now. He's 6'1". Still has 20 pounds to go I'd guess. He's losing strength though - which he says will happen when you lose weight but I've gained strength - considerably - so I don't think that necessarily has to happen and would be the downfall to his diet. But I'm sitting here on my 2nd CN (I do two back-to-back) with brownies, muffins and carrot cake while he just left dinner saying he was still hungry. I'll take my diet any day LOL...
Just out of curiosity, what led you to doing 2 CNs back to back?
Short answer, didn't lose any weight after doing CBL 4 months. Sat/Wed CN didn't work so trial and error brought me to my solution. Lost 9 pounds now since trying it. I totally took this thread off topic :- I started a new log Monday and all my info/measurements/diet is there.Haha, yeah what happened to the nicotine discussion? I'll check out the log, thanks. I'm aboot 45 minutes away from getting some gluten-free (my first time ever) pancakes down my throat. Anyway, back to the nicotine!

I am thinking they are talking about before their 12 hour fast as in the morning. That is actually when I take mine. I will be taking it in the morning next week to stimulate MTOR. Since I will most likely be having a 13 hour fast(not including coffee).

Also how does it work with morning training? i.e. after HIIT/resistance training.

I found it on Amazon, 96 pieces for $20:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UDBXIA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00You can also use Snus, but the nicotine dosage is higher and its not as harmless as the gum.

kcarolhxwParticipantCan someone answer this question: If you take nicotine gum in the morning while you're trying to prolong ketogenesis, wouldn't increasing the ketone production cause an insulin spike?Quoted from his article:
fat cells exposed to nicotine and insulin simultaneously can actually increase the rate of fat storage in fat cells[15].
The reference cited (15) suggests that the combined presence of nicotine and insulin increases LPL activity on adipose tissue: Chajek-Shaul T, Scherer G, Barash V, Shiloni E, Caine Y, Stein O, Stein Y. Metabolic effects of nicotine on human adipose tissue in organ culture. Clin Investig. 1994 Jan;72(2):94-9.

Lasse ElsbakParticipantNot if you do it right, you're trying to prolong ketogenesis, not spike it. If you're not consuming too much CO or WPI you shouldn't spike insulin. Not spiking insulin is one of the main reasons you skip breakfast.

kcarolhxwParticipantThank you!I wanted to add a couple last things. I bought my nicotine today but did a bit more reading to be safe.
"Park and Chew" 1. Place the gum in your mouth and bite slowly and deliberately about 15 times or until a strong taste or tingling sensation is felt. These sensations indicate the nicotine is being released.2. Stop chewing and place the gum between your cheek and gums.3. When the intensity of these sensations decreases, begin to chew again. Repeat this cycle of "park and chew" for about 30 minutes, or until the peppery taste and tingling sensation subside.
If you let the nicotine get into your saliva and simply swallow it, you can get nauseous or upset stomach. Also, I've read in a couple articles absorbance. It's recommended not to drink 15 minutes before or after chewing, as this could affect absorbancy. And this too:
Nicotine gum is available in two strengths, containing either two milligrams or four milligrams of nicotine. Of that amount, about half is released on chewing.
Unlike cigarette smoking, which delivers the nicotine rapidly into the bloodstream through the lungs, nicotine from the chewing gum is slowly absorbed through the cheeks. Most of the nicotine that is swallowed does not reach the general circulation, because after being absorbed from the small intestine, it is destroyed as it passes through the liver.
He recommends dosing between 1-4mg on a given day. Other articles using nicotine therapy also say that you need to chew 2 mg gum to absorb 1 mg, because you ultimately only absorb about half into your system. If you follow the recommended 1 mg gum (by cutting a 2 mg piece in half) 2x a day, you total about 1 mg absorbance.

It would be interesting to hear what Kiefer's thoughts are on this...

kcarolhxwParticipantYeah don't quote me on it. I just thought I'd bring it up…hoping someone could confirm or deny the absorbency of the gum. I found this though (Pharmacological Reviews Online Journal):
The absolute dose of nicotine absorbed systemically from nicotine gum is much less than the nicotine content of the gum, in part, because considerable nicotine is swallowed with subsequent first-pass metabolism (Benowitz et al., 1987). Some nicotine is also retained in chewed gum.
Nicotine is poorly absorbed from the stomach because it is protonated (ionized) in the acidic gastric fluid, but is well absorbed in the small intestine, which has a more alkaline pH and a large surface area.
Bioavailability for these products with absorption mainly through the mucosa of the oral cavity and a considerable swallowed portion is about 50 to 80%
Seems like a more reliable source than the other articles quoted...http://pharmrev.aspetjournals.org/content/57/1/79.full
