IVAN YAMMemberHi CBL GurusA totally newbie is on board and I really wanted to get this cleared from my head before the 10th day comes. I came across CBL protocol a couple of weeks ago and I've bought the book and read it for at least 3 times. What fascinated me to explore CBL was the fact that you could actually do the "dirty loading" as claimed by Kiefer. As I read more and more through the website, it came to me that the idea of eating junk was not the whole idea of what CBL was about. It wasn't his intention of promoting a fat kid way of eating but instead junking out occasionally didn't seem to be totally out of the question. I'm into the 8th day of my prep phase and I'm sure somewhere on Kiefer's site it says "Just load" and dont worry about it. So my question here is for newbies who have undergone the prep phase, are we supposed to eat till heart's content and by that I mean stuffing down pizzas, pancakes, ice cream and cakes and his all time favorite cherry turnover? Technically speaking I "assume" that we do not worry about this since glycogen stores have been completely wiped out at this stage hence there is no room for shuttling glucose into the fat stores. Is this method still practiced by all who does CBL first time? Or we should go by the more preferred options these days like sticky rice.. sweet potatoes or sushi.Any advise is appreciated at this time. I just wanna get things right in my head since it is my first attempt doing CBL.

Richard SchmittModeratorYou can have both, rice/potatoes and the desserts. Now, stuffing yourself is plain stupid and thus why Kiefer titled a chapter “Don't be a fat kid”. Have some reason in the choices you're consuming and have common sense. There is a time and place for the types of carbs you're going to have. Not calling you stupid or anything, just putting it out bluntly. You can in fact enjoy yourself with carbs when you begin to backload.

ChuckMemberI also do the best when I backload with “Whole Foods” rice, sweet potatoes, bananas, pineapple, not so whole but fat free ice cream. 8)

Lawrence SturmMemberI've been eating like a fat kid, but the reality is that fructose is probably in everything I eat in my backloads.I really want to eliminate that crap from my life, so I'm likely gonna try and go fructose free for the most part... with maybe a desert or two thrown in there.Honestly, my passion for chocolate and sweets just isn't there anyway. I kinda did it for the novelty. I really like fruits and miss them so even though it is probably not glycemically / insulinimically optimal and may have some natural fructoses, probably gonna go with cleaner backload items, some fruits, a desert of highest caliber. I think I'll enjoy it more even if it isn't 100 percent optimal.

only real issue I see with fructose is in eating tons of it.. if you just get it from fruits and little bit of sugar here and there shouldn't have any negative effects at all.. but loading up on hundreds of grams of the stuff which is pretty common in todays eating is probably going to cause some issues
