There was a similar show on Canadian television a week or so ago as well. Are the tides of public health turning? This one was definitely better, even though it was less than half as long. This one went into the whole carb issue(not just sugar) and the calories in versus calories out issue as well. Plus the host was hot...and when she reached for that yogurt? Daaaamn  ;DOne issue I am curious about though(since I've been eating a fair amount of sugar lately) is the issue with fructose versus glucose. It seems to be pretty cut and dry that the potential negatives of fructose are much worse than glucose, but is the disparity between the two reduced when in a carb and/or energy deficit? I believe I've read that fructose and glucose in tandem is actually better at refilling muscle(and maybe liver) glycogen than glucose alone when carb depleted. I also believe Kiefer may have stated(on a podcast or something) that fructose behaves the same as glucose when in an energy deficit(again, is this caloric deficit or when carb depleted). Follow up question...is it possible to not be in a carb depleted state when in an energy deficit?

It has more to do with liver glycogen levels, I think. If your liver glycogen is full, the fructose has nowhere to go except to be converted and deposited as fat cells. So, like in a CN situation, when you're pretty much completely depleted, you can get away with a little more fructose, especially early in the night, because it will just go to refilling liver glycogen and not cause any issues until there is spill-over.

Exactly, if you BEGIN CN with some Yogurt, Cereal, Fruit, than it will have no negative effect. (Meaning you can avoid the shit of fructose. <--Sorry thats my personal vendetta against the evil F word.) But later in the CN it would be optimal to avoid it. Some dont and do fine. But general health/longevity, and OPTIMAL results in mind; avoid fructose if/when possible.

Yea I might put something like that together myself. I honestly like my meat, butter, CO, and greens better than carbs anyway. So being "able" to eat another big ass steak instead of a sub or w.e sounds much better to me!

+1. Love me some steak! Make it grass fed please.

also wanted to point out labels can cause issues for some people.. people see 0g carbs on the package but check the ingredients.. even if it has say .5g sugar per serving(label will say 0) it's usually not a big deal but for some if they eat a hefty amount of packaged foods they still could be getting a decent amount of sugar everyday even when they think they are eating ULC..

Exactly, this is point that is overlooked, and a sneaky way for food companies to push their products out. Uneducated people that just "munch away mindlessly" (Yes I made up that word) will buy more and more of said product thinking it's okay. For example, Bahama Buck's has Thin Ice Flavorings sweetened with Natural Stevia, this excited me but knowing full well of sneakiness, I checked the site, also contained Dextrose before the actual Stevia. Bit long winded but wanted to share.

Pork is always the sneakiest motherfucker of all. I always check the ingredients of everything I buy, but especially bacon and ham. Costco's practically the only place I can find bacon without any sugar. It's marked as "low sodium" too, paradoxically enough, as if that's the reason I'm buying it.

Worrying about sugar being in bacon is pointless. It's nearly completely gone, it's just used in the curing process. Don't stress yourself over it. Same thing with the stupid nitrate/nitrite pandemonium.

Ha I said I don't give a rat's ass about the stuff in mustard hahaha. The stuff in pork like less than 2% of whatever its filled with, gets cooked out when you make it. So the 1g becomes almost not valid.

Oh, okay, right on. I guess I get too obsessive-compulsive about that crap, hahaha.

I have a tendency to be OCD as well sometimes. I've heard that this should be more of a game of “this is better than that” type of thoughts rather than “this is 100% bad” or “100% good”.

Probably came from reading too many Paleo blogs for me. “You eat one gram of gluten and your small intestine is literally turned inside-out and you will vomit your lungs!”

Now that I think about it, I suppose with gluten, saying your small intestine will turn inside-out probably is a pretty legit statement to make.

Dude you dont sound so healthy. Cant eat carbs and hypersensitive to foods with gluten. You dont need a fat loss diet you need a health boosting diet. From all the people Ive read about being sensitive to gluten, it seems they do "better" when they get rid of gluten completely, only to make themselves even more sensitive to it whenever it does get back into the diet, accidentally or not.

And yet you chose to stop because you were getting so fat? Im not entirely sure of your motives with what you are doing. You are like a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

i didn't stop the rice because i was getting fat i just felt it isn't needed especially in the amounts i was taking in.. i'm working on a new approach to building my body with a new way of eating, training, and supplementing.. just doing my own n=1 experiment that's all

Thats what I dont get. At 31 (presumably drug free) with a number of years of training you have a lofty goal of 40lbs of, lets just say "mass", and yet with your rapidly dwindling window of oppurtunity you are trying to do it by "experimenting".

ill just put it this way with my current experiment which has only been going for a few weeks i feel stronger, looking better, and showing more progress than I did after several months of straight CBL... i feel experimentation is key unless you want to spend your life following some plan that may never work for you just because it works for others.. that is exactly what i did for years when I was younger . I followed all the magazines, all the blogs, the "pro" routines. And it got me pretty much nowhere over the course of several years. If i would of sat down and tried to figure out what works best for me i probably would not of quit lifting all those years ago

This is good to hear. Just try not to become so dogmatic that you refuse to entertain other ideas when things do stop working. You seem fairly indoctrinated into the carbs are evil mindset with all your current postings. I went through that phase and well beyond the point of diminishing returns. Id hate for anyone to have to waste the same amount of time, health and performance unnecessarily.
