In October of last year, I ran in an event called Tough Mudder. It's a 12-mile (19.3 km) obstacle course where you put your body through a gauntlet of exhausting tests. The hardest part about it though, is the running. Add on top of it that I was running in Kentucky (mostly up and down-hill with a rare straight stretch) and it's even worse.I was able to finish the course last year, but I didn't complete all of the obstacles. Honestly, if I had been a little more prepared for the running portion, I would have performed better. Now, I have 8 months to prepare for this years event, and I want to be ready! So I want to know (in regards to the running portion):
- How long before the event starts should I start that part of the training?
- Is there a program I should use to train for this?
- Should this all be done outside, or can some of this be accomplished on a treadmill?
- Should I aim to keep my HR under 65% when doing this training?
