Ok guys I was just wondering if you could do dips let's say 3 to maybe 4 times a week providing your triceps have recovered my triceps are lagging. Ano people will say overtraining but look at gymnasts they use their triceps all the time not just their triceps and their physiques are incredible

I personally think doing dips weighted or not 3-4 times a week is not going to be helpful. I think this is a perfect example of “more is not always better”. I would recommend training them no more than 2 days per week, but doing a mixture of one heavy day and another higher rep hypertrophy day. So for the heavy day do some heavy close grip 3-4 sets of 5-6 reps, with 2-3 sets of weighted dips of 5-6 reps. On the hypertrophy day I would recommend incorporating for example, Hany Rambods HST7, which I've found works really well. Do 2 or so regular tri excercises, for example behind the head dumbell extension for 2-3 sets of 10-12 reps, then add another tri excerise of 2-3 sets of 10-12 reps, then finish off with some rope extensions following the HST 7 protocol. In my experience most people overtrain and do too much, I know I suffered from that for a long time and would not grow, then when I cut my training back but performed higher quality training my gains increased. Honestly I bet you could get away with doing no more than 6-9 sets of tris per week and still grow.I bet you will experience massive growth assuming your eating right.

Dips are great, and will really build the outer lateral head and smaller medial head (the lateral head provides the outer "horse-shoe"), but you definitely want to toss in a good bit of overhead extension movements (cable, barbell, dumbbell, seated, standing, lying, angled, etc.).  The extension movements will build the long head, which gives the tri's the "bulky', thick look (and that "hang" in a double-biceps pose).Other great moves:Close-Grip Bench Press -- builds the lateral and long head (overall good mass builder)Reverse-Grip Bench Press -- builds the medial and long headTry higher-frequency, and see if you get better results.  Remember, your Tri's will get hit on Chest and Delt days, too.Cory

^ good advice Cory. a lot of it comes down to physiology – the tricep does not operate over a single joint (the elbow) but two joints (the shoulder as well). rip talks about this here:http://vimeo.com/25983467as well, try to find what works for you - the rope pull, bar pressdown, pre-exhausting with a "curl-down", over the shoulder, rev curling one arm at a time... and this is just on the cable machine!

I read in a Robert Kennedy book, that the best three Triceps exercises (based on magnetic studies) were:Pressdowns, Dumbbell Overhead Extensions and Bench Dips.Cory

If you have lagging triceps your probably doing....1.) The wrong Exercises2.) Exercises in the wrong order 3.) Focusing on only ONE parts of the tricepsI don't know what your training schedule looks like, but if your having a pressing day each week your going to be using them more than you think on those days. I would post a sample of your workouts, and we could give you a little better of a clue.

Haha thank you! Everyone is different. My arms are lagging too so I'm trying one heavy day and one pump day for four weeks. Then if that doesn't work I'm going to hitting them a little bit almost every day. If that doesn't work Im gonna try not doing anything at all for them. You just have to experiment.
