Mrs.StashMemberI'm a 40 year old woman at around 50% body fat (according to pics I saw somewhere).I do believe I am the fattest person around these forums.Anyway, I'm old enough to have tried everything by now, including Very Low Carb and even a breif stint of Zero Carb.Once upon a time, Low Carb helped me loose 37 lbs. That was pre-kids. I have since gone back to that protocol with zero results after several months.I'm tired of spinning my wheels just to remain "the fat lady".It just gets old. I don't cheat on my nutrition. I know how to do Low Carb. I commit, I dedicate, I stick it out. At one point I was living on a single, butter-slathered steak per day. I felt great, but I was fat, fat fat. Looked like someone who didn't give a $hit about her nutrition. So depressing.Of course, conventional wisdom says, "diet is only half of your problem. You need to move more to lose weight."So, I thought about moving more. I thought about it a lot. Of course you all know what "people" think I should do. Couch to 5k!Zumba!Prancersize!Anyhow, tons of my friends are taking up running marathons as the fitness "trend du jour". I'm not a runner. Not built like one. Running is uncomfortable and makes my boobs bounce too much. NOT doing it. My friend, Lisa, now SHE's a runner. She's little and bouncy and hops up and down when her favorite song plays.My center of gravity is low. I am big-hipped. I got some kickin' curves hidden under this padding. I am only 5'2, but I am not "spritely".Wow was I glad to find research that marathons were not the ONLY way a chick like me could get healthy.I got turned on to powerlifting by something I read somewhere around the internet. Piqued my interest because, while I was NEVER made to run, I am, naturally, very strong. Very, very strong (for a chick). Like, my Dad used to make me help him move furniture kind of strong. Lots of natural muscle in my legs and glutes. I have always felt good when I moved something heavy.So, I figured I'd make the best of what comes naturally and give lifting a try. Just started the stronglifts beginner protocol. As soon as I "outgrow" the weights I have around here, I will feel a lot less stupid about going to a gym to get some professional advice. Sure don't want to go in there looking like I do unless I am able to at least move some metal. Not opposed to some HIIT if I must do it, but am determined to keep it "low impact". (Bike?) Going to eat Carb Night Solution style to see if I can move some of this stupid, stubborn fat off. After reading the book, I believe VLC with spurts of carb intake make sense for what is going on with me.Probably should run in to the nearest endo and have a bunch of bloodwork done so they can tell me my thyroid is messed up. Maybe once I'm forced onto Obamacare, but SO not asking husband to pay for that.If I keep lifting, even if the fat stays, at least I will be fat AND STRONG, which, in my mind, is an improvement.I'd appreciate hearing from anyone else around here who is or started out at more than 20% body fat. It would be very encouraging.Heck, I'd like to hear from ANYONE around here. Thanks for any words of encouragement.-MS

SpatzModeratorWelcome to the forum Mrs. Stash!Its wonderful to hear your determination and your willingness to try new things, especially lifting. Not too many women I know of like to lift heavy things, unless you count the tough women on the forum. Keep up the lifting, it may not help as much as you hope to lose body fat, (it most certainly won't hurt!) but it sure will help your body become healthy. You'll feel stronger, have more energy, and have more confidence about yourself when you know you can make a pretzel out of that gent in the corner of the supermarket that looks at you with an unsavory glance. 😉I feel that you'll see wonderful changes by going on CN, and you'll still get to eat tasty things! I love that once a week I can indulge in whatever I was craving at the beginning of the week. I can't wait to read about your progress!Good luck! You got this. 😀

Tracy JarchowParticipantIf I may clarify a bit on lifting. Lifting (the action) does not necessarily burn body fat in an of itself. Fortunately for women it does more so than for men. HOWEVER, one of the biggest things that lifting will do is build muscle especially if paired with appropriate nutrition. Building muscle changes MANY, MANY things in the body for the better. Those changes is what will help you burn your body fat and create a much healthier and happier you!

Yep, was very fat, but now in the right direction (Male, 5'6").I started Carb Nite in Nov 2012, since then I've lost @120lbs (and really more but that was when I started tracking the scale) and feel great, only started going to the gym last June to kick it up too. Still learning more and more. These forums and groups help a lot too, a lot of very helpful people. It's a cliche saying, but it didn't go on overnight and it won't come off overnight - stick with it, ask questions, listen to the interviews/podcasts, get a buddy, it all helps!Welcome aboard!

Brandon D ChristParticipantIt sounds like you are going in the right direction. I firmly believe low carb diets and resistance training (powerlifting is awesome) is the fastest way to change your body composition for the better.However, from reading your history, you are going to have some trouble. You sound like you are really metabolically damaged. Luckily though lifting weights will help fix that.While I did not lose my 40 lbs from CNS, I was once over 20% body fat. The only recommendation I can give is to minimize stress and be patient.

PhattyMemberI'm pretty sure I started out at over 50% body fat, but I had lost about 70lbs before I came across CNS/CBL.I wish you all the best with lifting. I'm always trying to get my sister's into lifting instead of wasting their time with cardio and fucking crunches.

Where your able to lose the bulk of the BF through CBL or CN? I've become deathly afraid of carbs, in any form at any time.

Anssi SoderenaMemberYou can do it! What I have read on this forum I have seen a lot of wonderful results. Keep on it and you'll be writing your own log about “How to get under 20% BF” in no time (well ok, maybe a little time ;)). Just take a photo now and then so you can look at your progress with a smile. With your BF, the fat loss should be pretty fast at least in the beginning.And by the way, glad to hear you have started powerlifting. Women are usually afraid of becoming too muscular but that's nonsense. You'll only come to look good... and now you can show your runner friends what lifting and proper diet can do. 🙂
