longride22ParticipantI would like information on how to tweak CNS for type 1 diabetes. I have searched the forums and found little help. I have listened to all of the bodyio podcasts and others where Keifer has alluded to helping some type 1’s.
I realize this is a rather narrow topic. Is the forum the best way to find help or is there another avenue for posting these sorts of questions?
I AM in the queue for coaching, but there is a 4-5 week waiting list.
Thanks

Robert HaasParticipantThere’s a good reason he avoids the topic. When it comes to insulin, improper dosing can have fatal results. Too much insulin and you are in a coma, too little and you are hyperglycemic.
Waiting for professional help is the way to go IMO for proper glucose monitoring. The eyes can't see what the mind doesn't understand.

Brandon D ChristParticipantFrom what I understand, the diet doesn’t need tweaks. The person with diabetes monitors blood sugar and takes insulin as needed. Kiefer said most diabetics who are on Carb Nite greatly reduce the amount of insulin they need to take.

Richard SchmittModerator^^^ Exactly, the podcast with Dr. Rocky Patel explains what he does for his practice.

longride22ParticipantI am NOT asking for medical advice on insulin dosages or adjustments. I AM wanting suggestions on eating and timing the foods for Carb Nite in order to make progress toward the goals of health and fat loss.
Having researched and self-experimented with CNS for several weeks, I have some questions about THE carb night specifically; and the timing/mechanics of exercise for type 1 DM. Is THIS the appropriate place to ask for help with specifics or is it better to personal message someone?
Thanks

Brandon D ChristParticipantI hear you man. I’m sure you know how to manage your blood sugar. But I don’t think the diet is any different. However, you would possibly want to resistance train before the Carb Nite so you will get GLUT4 translocation. That will help you clear the blood sugar better.

longride22ParticipantOK. Thanks for the suggestion. I have to be careful with my exertion or a cortisol surge will shoot up my blood sugar and need for insulin. Exercise the next day or 2 after carb night is recommended, too, correct?
I have found that I need quite a bit more insulin the next 2-3 days after my carb night to keep my blood sugars normal. Is that what Keifer understands is happening with people? In his talks he seems to suggest that the insulin spike goes up and down within hours. I am not seeing this in my own total daily insulin dosage. It is super high on carb night, high for the next 2-3 days and then lower the last few days before the next carb night. I’m concerned that this is not promoting fat loss.

Brandon D ChristParticipantUsually HIIT is recommended the day after the Carb Nite or 2 days after Carb Nite. This is to eliminate glycogen stores. If you lift weights though I wouldn’t do this. I would just have a high volume lifting session.
Kiefer never really got into the specifics about diabetics and their insulin dosages. He just says that usually they need to take less. I’m sure this takes a while though.
I wouldn’t worry much about the insulin stopping fat loss. Many people lose body fat with diets that contain a large amount of carbohydrates daily. If you are really concerned, you can have a carb nite every 10 days or every other week.
