tammy briscoeMemberI purchased the book a few days ago, and I JUST NOW finished it. WOW!! while I loved all the information and reasoning behind this diet – I feel like my brain is on information overload and now that I am finished reading it, I don't know where to start haha I am hoping/wondering if this would be a beneficial program for me. I have lost a LARGE amount of weight over the years and am currently trying to get off these last 30 pounds. Unfortunately, I have hit a big plateau for the last 4 months that I just can't seem to get past. I have changed several things up in my daily routines/diet and nothing seems to be working, although, at least I am not gaining anything, so that at least is good. I am really just trying to lose about 30ish pounds and tone up and then just maintain from there. I am not a professional lifter by any means. I do strength/resistance training about 3-4 times per week and then mild cardio most every day (which is usually taking my boys to the park and walking in early afternoon). I do what I consider my actual "workout" around 9-10pm. I think that I understand as far as what should be consumed during the day and when to back load when working out this late, I think where I might be lost is all the shakes that are listed. Are these a MUST?Also, the prep-phase.....I have been on a pretty strict low-carb diet for the last several weeks. Consuming about 15-20 total carbs per day. Do I need to do the prep-phase or just start going in to the back loading? What should I expect when transitioning in to this program? Will I see a weight increase? What is normal if there is an increase? I know, which is normal for most any changes, that my body has to adjust to something new, but I really don't want to step on the scale in a month and see that I have gained 10 pounds or something. I am MORE THEN WILLING to give this an honest to God shot, but as most people, I have been told to fear carbs and I am TERRIFIED of them lolThink I just need a little help getting started here - if anyone is willing to throw some wisdom my way, it would be greatly appreciated!

atomicusMemberFirst off, the shakes aren't a must, although the PWO is important. Even Kiefer has said the morning one isn't really recommended now. The PWO with a 2:1 mix of carb/protein plus some creatine would be of great beneift though. Caffeine/MCT pre-workout could also be useful. As for prep phase, depends how closely you've stuck with recommendations of CBL I'd say, in terms of macros etc. If very close to that, you should be OK. If you haven't lost any weight though, perhaps follow guidelines of book and do again.

tammy briscoeMemberThank you so much for responding!! Since I have really gone back to low-carb over the last few weeks I have lost just over 4 pounds, so I am thinking that it might be okay to go ahead and move forward.I have NEVER drank any kind of nutritional shake other then Shakeology from BeachBody, so I guess my next step would be to figure out what it is I am needing (as this seems like a foreign language to me) and where I can get it from 🙂

atomicusMemberI wouldn't get bogged down in the minutiae of it too much when it comes to the shakes/supplements. Whey protein isolate, a simple carb (dextrose, malto, wazy maize or vitargo), leucine, creatine, MCT oil and caffeine is pretty much all you need really. Omega 3 also. The rest is good quality food. ;D

tammy briscoeMemberDo you happen to know if Shakeology anything I should continue to drink? maybe with the addition of some of these other things that are needed, or should I just stop? I ask mainly because we already have like 2 bags of it here and hate to let it go to waste. But don't want to use something that will be counterproductive.thank you again for responding!

You can use it during the backload, but not during anytime you are trying to stay under 30g of carbs.

tammy briscoeMembersorry – did not mean to post all the ingredients – I just copied/pasted. I have not been drinking this for the last several weeks since I went back to low carb all day. If it is not something that can be used, then that is fine, but figured would ask just in case since I have it. Otherwise, I will learn what all those 3 letter abbreviations mean lol and get some of that stuff. I'm assuming at somewhere like GNC would be a good place to start?

God no, Never GNC.Order from truenutrition.com, or even amazon in some cases.

atomicusMemberI laugh that a product like that can claim to “build lean muscle”, what a joke! You don't need that stuff, it's not going to do anything for you really. Certainly not something you want during the day anyway. Won't do any harm in a backload, but I don't see any benefit either.

tammy briscoeMemberOKAY – wow lol See I really have NO knowledge on drinking shakes and stuff. Is there anything specific that you would recommend for me to look for. A specific brand or type? This is just a whole new world for me 🙂 trying to talk hubby in to doing this with me but he is being very resistant. Hoping that maybe if I get some good results, he might jump on with me.Should I expect some weight gain when I start backloading? Just so I am not shocked in to tears or anything 😉

atomicusMemberI'm not familiar with truenurition as I'm in the UK, but I'm sure someone on here can tell what the better products they sell are. As mentioned though, a good quality whey protein isolate, a simple carb, creatine, leucine, MCT oil and caffeine is pretty much all you need. Why are you looking at CBL as opposed to CNS? I'd say that would be more suitable for your goals.
June 21, 2013 at 12:26 am #187882
tammy briscoeMemberhonestly – I didn't even know what CBL or the carb night thing was until I stumbled on the website. I asked a few questions about the CBL and then downloaded the book. Is there much of a difference between the two? I hate to have spent $57 for the CBL book and then have to buy another one to learn what it is. I really don't know what would be best for me as I have just hit the plateau and can not get past it and getting very frustrated.

honestly the information is similar to an extent CBL has a lot of new updated research like skipping breakfast.. you basically can use the concepts of CBL but do one backload(carb night) a week and you are pretty much doing CNS.. i think using the new information found in CBL and integrating that into CNS is best anway
