FairyKeymasterIf anyone's interested, there's a study showing double the vitamin D blood levels for tanning bed users over non-users. Detailed review here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2692214/

kcarolhxwParticipantThanks for this. I just recently started tanning to help get my vitamin d. The noticeable difference in skin tone has been great too.

Cory McCarthyMemberI just supp Vitamin D3… 3,200mg a day, split into 3 doses w/ 3 different meals: 1,200mg twice, and 800mg once. I take ea. of these doses with a Calcium supp.I'd try a tanning bed, but my Casper-ass would just burn to a crisp... and I am sure my risk of malignant skin cancer is much higher. LOL!Liquid tan for me to pose on stage... ::)Cory

FairyGuestYou don't need to take the D3 with three different meals — unlike with water soluble vitamins, your body can store vitamin D for about a week (technically you could take it all in one weekly dose). Also, D3 isn't vegetarian. Apparently D2 does work.

My bottle says Vegetarian. It is, indeed, D3. In fact, there are plenty of Veg. and Vegan D3 options if you search.Just dosing per BB'ing rules (got it out of a mag.). The amount is perfect daily dose for testosterone production.Cory

JakeMemberThe dose varies person to person. The only thing that matters is your blood plasma levels which you would need to get checked. For some people it'll take much more than 3200 mg

Hmm I think D3 comes from cod liver oil though. I personally take my D3 supplement daily at noon. I figure it mimics how your body would get vitamin D naturally from the sun. Also supposedly d3 can be stimulative, so it may not be best to take it at night.

True, but a Vegetarian-sourced D3 supp would not come from Cod Liver. 😉Vegetarian sources include: Cheese, egg yolks, yogurt, soy, mushrooms, oranges. Though, I am sure ea. supplement varies its source of D3 for Vegetarians. Mine simply says plant-derived, but the product claims NOT to use soy. I've seen other Veg. D3 products sourcing from mushrooms, specifically.Cory

FairyGuesthttp://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/2010/02/vitamin-d-discussion-d2-vs-d3-vegan.html?m=1Mushrooms (that have been treated with UV) are the only potential source of vegan D3 I can find. I don't think it's possible to eat enough food on a vegetarian diet to get 2,000-5,000 IUs if vitamin D each day. A good quality cod liver oil (and I stress QUALITY - should be liquid not capsules) is probably the best bet for dietary D3.

Fair enough, for Vegans. LOL. I worry not, b/c I am Vegetarian, and cheeses, yolks and dairy all contain D3. I eat plenty of eggs (obscene amounts), cheeses, and I supp. w/ D3. My recent bloodwork showed me to be the epitome of health. Full screening, too. Clearly, everything I am doing (even as a Veg.) is working, and working well (for me). My performance is outstanding in both lifting and Karate, and my hormone levels high. The only item the doctor mentioned was my protein levels being high (in my blood). I was like "no shit". He said he wasn't concerned or surprised, given what I do.Cory

kcarolhxwParticipant@CoryThe first time I tanned I burned! I'm the whitest person I know. They put me in their most basic bed and for only 7 minutes and I turned to a lobster.I signed up with a different tanning salon and they first put me in their UVA-filtered bed, as it can help fair skin begin tanning, and boy did it help. I was able to switch to a UVA/UVB bed after getting some tan, and now my color from this bed is really getting richer. I've progressed in this bed starting at literally 1 minute, now I'm up to 5 minutes. Eventually I'll be able to stay in for the full 15 LOL. I can almost guarantee I'm whiter than you....although it's not a contest....but if you looked at the underside of my forearm in the sun it would hurt your eyes. I'm absolutely ecstatic I have some color now, not to mention the vitamin D you get from UVB. Hope that helps from my experience 🙂 no one's a lost cause!

LOL. Thanks, but I am fine with supps and natural sunlight. Never had interest in doing it the bed way.I am Irish, though. Blonde hair, blue eyes... totally fair all around. I burn to a crisp. LOL.Cory

Brandon D ChristParticipantI thought about tanning before, but I think I would get claustrophobic in that bed.
