Punjabi_virusMemberSounds good to me mate. This is exactly what I do. I tend to end every backload with Low-Fat ice cream. Damn, damn good. I notice people harp on about 'gluten free' all the time. Whilst I don't really give a shit, low-fat ice cream is quite often gluten free which is a plus if you care about that at all.
Does the icecream really have to be low fat? I know the body goes in keto state more quickly if your last backload is fatless

Punjabi_virusMemberDo you reckon pretzels or rice crackers as clean carbs? So I can add them later in the backloads

Richard SchmittModeratorHonestly, the whole low fat ice cream depends. 1) Having a fat helps satiate a carb meal, meaning you don't go overboard. 2) If you had enough fats during the day, having a lower fat backload will help balance those macros out. 3) Could be a personal preference, and nothing to stress/worry over. I can't have regular ice cream, but I do enjoy what I can get regardless. Having a fat before bed tends to help sleep better. And clean carbs?....those wouldn't hurt do it earlier...

That's the problem with my backloads I start my backloads with froot loops and pretzels and by the time I finish work it's already 10.30 or 11 and that's the time when I have some lots junk like pizza or burgers.

breenhouseMemberTo be honest, the only reason I eat low-fat ice cream is because it's lower calorie than regular and I can eat more of it 🙂

steve_76MemberI have checked what I've said. This has come from the carb backloading book. Backload within a 2 hour window for best results. If your not training you should still use high GI carbs but avoid junk if you want lean gains. If you're not resistance training the sugar you eat will more than likely be stored as fat. Even the article above confirms that," carbs can contribute to 40-70% of the stored materials in fat cells." If you are not worried about fat then eat junk, but you should have a lean source of protein as well. The book says don't eat like a fat kid...so don't. CBL is not an excuse to eat shit all night long every day. Don't forget that your first meal is the post workout shake. One hour later you can have fats(post training).
So you call pwo shake your first meal? coz i thought first meal is what you eat one hour later that pwo shake and that should be fatless and second and third meal could be anything
Yes. That's what Kiefer calls it in his book that he wrote for u. Have another read of it. The second meal is where you eat your carbs. The third meal would just be lean protein of some sort if you need it.

Richard SchmittModeratorThen eat a ULC meal.

+1 5 Hours post training theres no reason you should still be eating carbs, trashy or not. If your hungry eat a beef patty or some eggs. Not a cheeseburger fries and ice cream. This isn't Binge Backloading. Sorry im sounding like an a*&hole but I'm seeing a growing trend of people doing things like this and its worrisome to me for several reasons. But to not go into that re-read the guidelines for a backload stated in the book. "Feed your body what it needs to grow, not what it wants to burn." So basically your Backloads "..within a few hours of your training.." should consist primarily of "clean" high glycemic carbohydrates. The fat should only be added to meet your daily needs. So you could get those in during ULC if you wanted to. Â Â Â Â That could keep you from being tempted to slam trash foods later. For example I was not near my fat needs for the day when i started my BL yesterday. (Needed around 45g). So yes I enjoyed a home baked cookie, and a tiny piece of ice cream cake. But that was only a little bit of my fat, the rest came from a Grass Fed Burger Patty and KerryGold Grass Fed Butter on my potato. Now Im anticipating getting slammed for suggesting not eating a bunch of junk, but for overall health and success long term. Try using this type of idea. Â Â Â Â I know there are members here who consistently eat donuts and such with great success, but I personally think that your long-term health and results will be better eating better sourced carbs and fats during backloads.

While I agree with is.. his main idea is that he's having trouble gaining weight. So perhaps extending his backload window is a viable way for his bodyweight to increase.. (Dunno if it'd be a favorable composition.. but just playing devil's advocate here.)

Richard SchmittModeratorThe more meals, then it'll mean more calories. ULC meals can help just as much as carb meals. Granted if he is having the difficulty in gaining weight, might as well live in Costco to eat all their products.

+1 If you wanna eat more carbs, eat them within the Backload Window. I dont suggest slamming 1000g carbs in but thats 100% on you. You will most certainly gain weight, but as far as lean gains....Forget it. Tex suggestion is the most optimal, fill your carb needs to reload for tomorrows workout. Later that night if you are feeling hungry, continue back to ULC. That will leave your body burning fat as planned. Just feeding it a little more. Now by this time in the day (My guess is) you'll have ate a bunch of fat, and at least met your protein goals. So maybe keep these meals .5:1 (As low fat as possible while not stalling fat burning *As suggested by Keifer). The current practice of eating carbs for hours isn't CBL at all. Its I lift, then eat all night. The metabolic process that is supposed to be happening when following any variation of CBL/CN CN/CBL simply isn't happening if your eating carbs that long every day. Especially if you are every day. If you went 4 ULC days (the minimum for CN) you could most certainly get away with that. But then you would be on CN, not CBL.
