KderouletParticipantWell according to the book, someone who is above 150lbs should be having over 500g of carbs… I think people are stuck in the “Low carb to lose weight” mind set, which, as this thread shows, is not always the case. Food is a drug!

Tanner FoxParticipant^^^Working off of that, any of you other guys with success from bigger backloads over 12% or are you all fairly lean?
I'm around 14% at 260lb. Larger backloads have always resulted in better progress for me.

shaerowMemberCome to think of it, this does seem similar to the concept of calorie cycling w/ a cheat day or carb nite. My guess- by eating 600+ carbs in one night, you get the same leptin benefits you'd have for a cheat day/carb nite, w/o going too far overboard w/ a cheat day (10000 + cals, holy fat!), as leptin is stimulated when fat cell leptin signaling receptors detect a surplus of carbs. The caloric deficit on the next would be treated as if there was no caloric deficit and fat burning would be elevated through the roof, and I'm assuming you or many of you guys that have experienced this, would do fasted/early lifting, would cause growth hormone to be elevated, plus large amounts of leptin= extreme amounts of fat being targeted for burning, plus a double insulin response with the hypertrophic shake which even some of the body's resources would be put towards to and be put to an anabolic response/muscle building. Or if you're doing HIIT (or HIIT on the day after your “off day”), your leptin sensitivity is further boosted (w/ leptin from the back load already present= amplified response, so you'd get the same effects of fat burning the day after the backload, which could potentially be a lift day) plus catabolic hormones (adrenaline, norepinephrine) are secreted further boosting the fat burn response. Hence either way, fat burning is extremely amplified along with muscle building from the lift's anabolic response.

JizzmoGuestShaerow, I also thought about this and it kind of makes sense.I think your body is in the highest gear of fat burning for like 20 hours of the day, except the few hours youre backloading. Maybe its impossible to convert that many carbs into glycogen or fat if your body is forced to run on fat as fuel most of the time. The backload-carbs are probably used up for repairing processes and such.I still cant decide whether I'll continue with short CNS-stints for fat loss or if I'll try really going overboard on the carbs during the next backloads and see where THAT takes me... Honestly the weight loss from both was similar...Im just about to see my lowest 2 abs, which i never did before since i store ALL my fat right there (probably have to get down below 8% to see them, dont know if CBL can take me there though)

AciDMemberIf I have two options: one- continue doing what I do, or second- try something new that looks promising, I'll always pick second one, you can ALWAYS back out.

BraingainerGuestyeah acid i will try too.Yesterday i backload with arround 550g carbs. Today my legs, arms, shoulders were totaly ripped ... 😛I will backload before non training days with 500-600g carbs and do on non training days ultra low carb. And on regular training days I backload round about 400g carbs. So now I look forward to get lean !

JizzmoGuestIll try backloading >600g carbs every single backload for the next week. I kind of want to see where that takes me, especially because i seem to LOSE weight with those amounts of carbs.Today were 5200 kcals and 675g carbs, im pretty DAMN full right now, but i managed to kill 4600 kcals in a single session after my leg workout. PERSONAL RECORD, haha ;D ;D

Richard SchmittModeratorI did my back yesterday and had a backload I guess you would call it and I woke up at the same weight this morning after drinking coffee and with what I had on! And I continued to lose weight throughout the day! I'm weird y'all. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk

Lucky you! I have a problem with water retention and typically I have to avoid back-loading two days in a row because it takes me the whole day to really lean out and evacuate everything. I wake up looking shredded but a couple pounds heavier and a rock solid, slightly distended ab area. Oh well...

shaerowMemberI had 550 g last night, so far, besides healing, I'm disliking the larger intake as I've lost definition. The odd part- skin's tighter, maybe b/c I was bloated this morning. But I'll let you guys know what my definition is like 2 days from now after the 2 HIIT sessions I plan to do the next days

What did you eat, it could be less about how much you eat and more about what you ate.

Was this after a significantly larger back-load than normal?

This still challenges me, I struggled to get over 300g last night (big sushi dinner with lots of rice +250g of white bread, mochi ice cream, pop tarts, cookies, and cereal)Definitely looked better this morning though than after monday's backload, so maybe I need MOREI might drink too much water too
