Brandon D ChristParticipantWow I havn't started a thread in forever…Anyways, what are your stubborn muscles? The muscle that you just can't get to grow?For me pretty every muscle in my upper body is stubborn except for my traps. The most stubborn by far though is my chest and biceps.

thestiffmeisterParticipantCalves and forearms..that's it. They get ripped/veiny, but hardly ever grow.

Deltoids. My front delts are fine, but my medial and rear need extra lovin' care to prevent my back and chest from taking control, and over-shadowing them.I guess next up: my arms. Again, all because my back and chest are so quick to grow (ridiculously genetically gifted areas)... that arms are always at risk of falling behind (like delts).For this reason, I sometimes directly hit delts and arms twice a week, but in different ways. Heavy days, light days, intensity days, straight-set days, high vol., low vol., etc. Basically... shock.Cory

I hate training rear delts. I think out of all the muscles in the body, they are the hardest train.As far my "gifted muscles" my glutes, hamstrings, quads, and to a lesser extent spinal erectors, can grow really easily.

Yes... my legs are another gifted area... my entire lower body. I used to be afraid of being bottom-heavy, but my back and chest grow nicely, so I won't get to that point. I just need to keep my arms and delts in check.Yes... rear damn delts. :/I do bent laterals, face pulls, this thing I call "sprinter raises" (basically, you mock the arm movement of a sprinter in motion, but holding DBs -- kills front and rear delts), plus my rears get work during rowing movements. Just gotta keep at it.I remember when my Long Head (triceps) was lagging... I kicked the hell out of it for a year (during a bulk), and it filled out nicely. Lot of overhead extensions at different angles, plus shock techniques like FST-7.I am willing to work hard, so I know I will earn my body someday (as I envision it).Cory

Gl;itch.eMemberInteresting thread. A stubborn muscle (IMO) is just a muscle that isnt recieving proper stimulation. If you can stimulate the muscle appropriately theres nothing aside from muscle fibre type (not that important) thats stopping it from growing at the same relative rate as everything else. This is where individual anatomy and exercise selection/execution comes into play. As an example, due to my bone structure and muscle attachments my upper chest does relatively little work in conventional pressing movements. My delts are attached in such a way that at any point where the upper chest would get some stimulation the delts do the lion share of the work. Therefore my upper chest has not grown as much as the rest of the chest. To get around this I would have to tailor my exercise selection/execution such that I can keep the shoulder recruitment to a bare minimum whilst maximising the upper chest. It would also require a sufficient amount of volume and dedication to get anywhere with. Since Im training more for strength than aesthetics I dont bother doing much for them at all and therefore cant complain that they aint growing.

Gl;itch.eMemberAlso put on 40lbs of muscle and youll have grown everything! No one that has stubborn calves has ever put on 40lbs and not got bigger calves. Cant be 160lbs and wondering why you dont have 20inch calves!

Same here, been hamering calves EOD with keifers routine between bench sets and they are just getting more defined and veiny but not growing much. "Gifted areas" ared definately chest and bis, both seem to grow just fine

Brandon D ChristParticipantI've always had big calves even when I was little. I personally never had trouble with them, which is funny because they seem to be a stubborn muscle for most people.I actually used to be embarrassed of how big my calves were when I was little now I embrace it haha.

thestiffmeisterParticipantBah I care about forearms more than I care about calves, my calves are uber strong, A dude I know who does crossfit told me I didn't look like I squatted very much because of my calves which I found hilarious as he can barely do 2 plates a side with his huge calves. It is strange because everything else grows pretty much whenever I bother focusing on it. Could be the fact I don't do heavy calf training since I need those for boxing,
