SquirrelBurgerKeymasterJust got back from a really, really unhealthy few weeks in Los Angeles and I've decided to re-do the prep phase before jumping back into SA.I'm trying to shorten it with HIIT at the outset - my question, which I didn't see in the book, is when and how often to do the HIIT cycles. I understand that it should be during the first few days of prep, but how many times per day? And for how many days?I need to make sure my day 7 ends this time next week so I can plow through some carbs I have that will go bad otherwise. I was on day 2, but fucked up and had a bahn mi earlier (like 50/60g carbs) so I'm doing a reset. Can't afford to do that again.

Richard SchmittModeratorOnce per day as normal HIIT should be. Preferably fasted mornings but whenever during the day. I would do it maybe 2-3 days during the next week, just because of your statement about the unhealthy few WEEKS in LA. I would try to strive for ten days personally but let's see what happens on day 7.

I was in LA for about 9 days (4 days longer than I intended to), then back home to Seattle for a week and a minor detox, then back to LA for another week. During my time in LA, there was a lot of drinking, and it was nutritionally terrible - the people I stayed with only ate out at restaurants, so the stuff around the house was all high-sodium flash-frozen preservative-laced bullshit. I'm fairly certain they haven't eaten a home-cooked meal in years and it was all I had to scrounge off of.From my understanding, HIIT is meant to speed along the first 3 days of reorientation (glycogen depletion), so I figured that one or two days at the very start should do the trick. I'm gonna do it for three days along with weight training and see what comes of it. In the past, I never felt particularly shitty during orientation, so I'm just gonna trust the book's timelines.

Tracy JarchowParticipantKiefer also mentions somewhere the optimum time for a HIIT workout is within an hour of waking. Am I remembering him correctly?

Richard SchmittModeratorThat is a good rule of thumb to do

Brandon D ChristParticipantYou are already pretty depleted after going two days without carbs. While 50 g os over the 30 g limit, it is still pretty low carb. I would have a HIIT session tomorrow and one the day after. That should take care of it.

I went home after eating it, took a nap, did a HIIT session when I woke up. Just did another one today about 2 hours after waking. Hoping that'll keep me on track to begin backloading again by Tuesday or Thursday, depending on how I feel.
