JakeMemberIn the CBL book, Kiefer states “Consuming 10 grams of whey isolate a few minutes before a meal, for example, decreases the amount of insulin released and can assuage hunger”, and this statement is referenced to a study. I was under the impression that consuming whey or any protein for that matter spikes insulin so could anyone explain how consuming whey prior to a meal decreases the overall insulin spike? And would this be a good idea to start implementing during the ULC portion of the day? Thank you.

JakeMemberAfter reading the study it appears they do not have a definitive mechanism behind this result of consuming whey prior to a meal; however, the authors believe it may be due to a decreased rate of gastric emptying. Does anyone have any actual experience with this? I'm considering ingesting 10g of protein from WPC prior to a couple of my ULC meals due to the fact that as of now my ULC portion of the day usually ends up consisting of a higher 1:1 ratio of fat to protein with more fat than protein.

I tried taking 10g of whey iso and fish oil before each meal for a couple of weeks, back when I first started CBL, but I honestly can't say I noticed any difference. At that point, I was actually eating 4-5 meals a day. Now I only eat 2 meals a day, and I've cut out the whey, except PWO, and just take a bit of fish oil before my meals and with my coffee/coconut oil/cream concoction I have once or twice a day.
