Mini-rerun: I've been low carbing (less than 25gm per day) since June 24th.  I'm a 5'3″, 60 year old post menopause female and  eating a 1200 calorie diet of only protein (26%), fats (73%)  and non-starchy vegetables (under 25gm of carbs thru mid-August, 10 or under from then until now).  Starting weight was 226 and a week ago, it was 214.5.  Disappointing weight loss to say the least for 16 weeks, given that I lost 70 pounds in 3 months several years back and 50 pounds in about 2.5 months in 2011.  I've maintained the 120 lb weight loss so no yo-yo effect going on here.  Nice break anyway as it gave time for the skin to tighten up.  Thank God for good genetics.I did my first CN on 10/15 but keeping the comments on women in mind, ate moderately (piece of lasagna, 2 pieces of cheesecake...maybe something else, but can't remember right now).  Next day went easily back to my under 10gm of carbs. So Monday's are my official weigh day and I stepped hesitantly on the scale since my skin doesn't seem as saggy/wrinkly as it had been looking this last month.  Imagine my shock when I had to keep sliding that scale down...all the way to 208 lbs!    6.5 lbs this past week and while some may say most of it is water, keep in mind that I've been low carbing already for 3.5 months and I know for a fact that I wasn't holding any excess water.  I was holding a bit for 2 days or so after CN, but that's all dissipated, so looks like the CN kicked that stubborn fat into gear!  I am so geeked this morning! Now my question is, given that I am fairly sedentary, should I do my CN every 7 days...or every 10?

1200 calories, in my opinion, is not enough though.

It is for me.  🙂  *Supposedly*, according to the calculators, 1700 is maintenance for my current weight/age/activity level and 1500 will give me a slow weight loss...1200 a faster one.  Yeah, not so much.  More like 1500 is maintenance and 1200 allows me to lose slowly.  I tried low carbing earlier in the year and just got totally frustrated by believing their numbers because I lost nothing, other than about 4 pounds of water loss the first week.My guess is that it's due to insulin resistance, although as time goes on, it looks as if it may be reversing itself as I'm so strict with the amount of carbs and type of carbs (and a few other things suggested by Dr. Bernstein's 'Diabetes Solution').  I'm pretty satisfied with the amount of food I'm eating as well.I'll be very curious to see what happens next Monday since tomorrow (Tuesday) is my second CN.

First off, nice job that is some solid progress. I vote to keep your CN at 7 days. Something I am noticing through my own experimentation, working with clients, and by some of the reading I have done is that I think way too many people go ape shit on their CN when it isnt needed.

By 'ape shit', you mean seriously packing down the carbs?  Yeah…that kind of scares me since I know how little takes for me to gain. Thanks everyone for the feedback.  I'm going to keep it at 7 days.I got up this morning and felt 'skinny' (yeah, I know, but you know what I mean) and I thought 'what the heck' and got on the scale.  I had to go get the calibration weights out just to make sure it was accurate because as of this morning, I'm down another 3 lbs.  That makes 9.5 lbs for this last week!  I'm not going to get my hopes up, but I have to say that after only 10 lbs in the last 16 weeks, it just feels good...particularly since I can see it this morning in my clothes and the way I feel! Now to figure out what I'm having for today's CN...

After my first week's loss of 9.5 pounds, I did another CN last night.  I decided on 'breakfast for dinner' and did a stack of decadent oatmeal pancakes with apple cider sauce.  Then, while sitting around the bonfire (freezing my tush off) burning up the last of the dead tree limbs from last winter's damage, I had a couple S'mores.  By the time I went to bed I was on a sugar high!I'm feeling comfortable about this since I've already lost 9.5 pounds, so even if I have a gain or no loss, I'm still ahead of the game compared to just doing straight ulc as I have been.

Just an update…At the end of week  1 and the morning of my 2nd carb nite, I was down 9.5#At the end of week 2 and the morning of my 3rd carb nite (10/29), I was down another 3.5#.I decided to continue with moderate carb nites...meaning a reasonable meal with carbs plus a higher carb snack a few hours later.  So far my carb nites have come in at 140gm (first carb nite) and 180gm (2nd).  So last night I decided to keep my carbs below the 180 mark and see how I do.    On my low carb days I still keep my calories at 1200, carbs below 10, protein about 27% and fats about 73% or so.  I don't really stress about the calories as long as everything else falls in line, but it just seems like that's all I'm eating these days...and I'm more than content.I've seriously missed bread and pasta while low carbing, so we ended up at Carabbas last night and my husband and I split one of their (way too huge) pasta dishes with a couple slices of their yummy bread.  Then later in the evening, I had a piece of the sour cream caramel apple cake I'd made that morning.  Again, not planning on weighing myself until next Tuesday morning, but so far I'm down 13 pounds in 2 weeks which is more than I've lost just low carbing over the last, roughly, 4 months!
