Doug CollinsParticipantFeeling pretty dumb at the moment. I bought some Zzzquil while at the store tonight because I've been sleeping kind of poorly. I only took half a dose (15ml) and thought to myself as it was going down, “damn this is sweet.” I popped open the label to see high fructose corn syrup listed as a main ingredient. I'm on day 2 of reorientation because I've been a bit sloppy with my eating the last week. I am seriously pissed. Hope I didn't just throw it all off. Took a shot of heavy cream to hopefully counteract any adverse reaction. I am always so careful when choosing things at the store or anywhere else as I've been low carb for years now. Can't believe this didn't even cross my mind. Can't find any legitimate macro information on it, but I'd say I just had at least 5g of sugar.

GnomerParticipantnot sure what you think is going to happen with just 5g of sugar… unless you are consistently high on carbs like 50+ a day you should be fine.. try to keep it low as possible but that 5g isn't going to do anything to you…

It's just an estimate. I've seen a few people saying it has up to 20g sugar in a full serving. I just try to be very very clean on my ULC days, especially during a reorientation. Either way, I was more posting this because it seriously didn't even sink in until I swallowed the stuff, it tasted like liquid candy, and I opened and read the ingredients. Lots of things have ingredients you wouldn't think of.

heh yea those medicines are usually chock full of crap to cover up the taste.. also i highly doubt a single dose of that has anymore than a couple grams of sugar at most..

TCBParticipantRegardless, you're only on day 2 of orientation. You'll be fine. If you're overly concerned, do five min of HIIT..Although, I don't think slugging back the heavy cream would've helped your situation, just as an fyi...

Kind of did a "eat bacon to counteract the leucine in the eggs" type of situation 🙂

I've become smarter as well and now put NOTHING in my mouth before I find out what it's made of. I've also had a couple of self-created set backs. Onward and upward as I become smarter and leaner! I don't think there is any way to counteract the ingestion of carbs. The best news however, is this is not a game of success or failure it is a game of this is better than that. No one should ever expect to be perfect but the better a person plays the game the better results that person will achieve.

My point was carbs + fat = same or higher insulin response. Not lower.
