My friend recently asked me about my diet who I also a LPN. He asked me if I was worried about getting heart disease from eating too much red meat. This got me to wonder; is this something we should worry about or is this just another health myth?- Mark

Myth. I'm guessing this thread is about to drop some serious knowledge bombs that will make your friends head spin. Research is a wonderful thing.

Root cause for heart disease 80% of the time is insulin resistance (IR), regardless of blood sugar levels (DECODE Study Group. Lancet 1999;354:617–621), not red meat. How does one combat IR? A low carb diet is one way, like CNS

Nearly all studies on red meat that I have seen all have a conclusion along the lines of:  'People who eat a lot of red meat have problem X more frequently than people who eat less, therefore red meat causes X'.  Also I wouldn't be surprised if cases of people who eat a lot of red meat and are perfectly healthy were dismissed as statistical outliers.
